Selvage Challenge and giveaway!

For the month of August, Candi of Raccoon Creek Quilts has asked me to host her monthly quilt challenge.  I chose to do a selvage challenge, which was:

1)  For those of you with no selvage stash, try to start one.

2)  For those of you with a few selvages, keep saving, and find a project for them.  If you are so motivated, you can even sew a project or a block.

3)  For those of you with lots of selvages and a plan, it’s time to execute!   This could be any project, quilt or no.

If you were able to accomplish one of these three challenges, please write a post with lots of pictures and link up here.  Please also link back to this post so people know why you are all of the sudden writing about selvages.  🙂

Now, for the giveaway.  My selvage quilt also happened to by my 100th quilt, so I felt the need to celebrate by giving away four Vintage Modern Fat Quarters, along with a fat quarter of the two fabrics I bought for my quilt, Kona Azure, and Flea Market Fancy floral in blue.

And, I’m not just giving one bundle away, I’m giving two!

Here’s how to win:

1)  If you posted a link for the selvage challenge, you are automatically entered to win one of the bundles.  I will pick a winner at random from those who have linked with your selvage projects, even if only one person did the selvage challenge.  You deserve it!

2)  The second bundle can be won by anyone who leaves a comment at the end of this post, so those of you who linked up to the selvage challenge can also leave a comment and be entered for this bundle as well.  I’m interested to know how many quilts you have made, best guess!  Again, this bundle can be won by anyone who leaves a comment.

Good luck, everyone.  I will choose a winner by September 4th.  I will also post more about my selvage quilt tomorrow, as it is also my entry into the Dresden Ruler Challenge hosted by the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild.  So come back tomorrow and see my quilt!!!!

My goodness! I cannot wait to see what the next hundred quilts look like, I am amazed by you! I think I have done about 15 quilts. And each one of those made me a little more crazy! I envy your passion, it’s remarkable that after 100 quilts you still love it. Pick me to win!

Wow – 100 – that is amazing! I have made two bed-sized quilts; one other quilt top is finished; and one more queen-size scrappy hexagon quilt top about 40% sewn together. That is a long way from 100, but I have made other minis and wall-hangers, too. Thanks for the great giveaway – I just love the fabric you are offering!

I’ve been keeping my selvages, but I have no idea what I’ll end up doing with them. I think I need to read some tutorials on how to sew with them since I gather it’s a bit different from regular piecing.

I started quilting in 2010, averaging about 12-14 quilts a year. So I guess that puts me at 34 quilts so far.

whoa! 100 quilts! that is outstanding…i seriously have no idea how many quilts i have made but i would have to guess in the neighborhood of 50? maybe 75? yikes! wish i would have kept track!

  11. Gunilla says:

Wow!!! 100 quilts- I am seriously impressed! I am making my third, inspired by Cluck Cluck Sew’s raimbow strip quilt. I am not looking forward to quilting it, it is BIG and I seem to mess up thequilting a bit… I guess I’ll just have to practise more! My goal is to learn FMQ though!!!

  12. Barbie says:

100! Congratulations! I can’t wait to see it. I’m so excited to see what everyone has done for the EZ Dresden Challenge!

I’ve never been one to save my selvages, so I’m interested to see how you use yours.

I have started collecting selvages. It’s embarrassing but in classes if someone throws out their selvage I will ask them for it or take it out of the garbage at the end of the evening. I don’t have a plan for them yet but I do like the quilt you made. I also love Flea Market Fancy but haven’t seen any locally. How many quilts finished? Or tops in the box? All together probably 50.

  14. Michelle H. says:

Wow…100! I’m impressed and inspired. I’ve only just begun and I have only 1 baby quilt under my belt and zero selvege saved (I’m so new, it’s sad).

  15. Beth Hammergren says:

Oh, more stash now since I will be saving my selvages now. Thanks for the blog and the giveaway.

  16. michele says:

I haven’t started saving selveges yet, but I think I may begin. I’ve noticed some fun designs lately.
    Congrats on your 100th quilt!
