Candi at Raccoon Creek Quilts hosts a monthly challenge with a new challenge every month. This month’s challenge was to design and make a block. I was on the fence for a while about it because I kept thinking, “What if someone already made the block I designed and made and I don’t know about it?” I had an idea in my mind, so I checked the Quilter’s Cache website to see if it was there, and I didn’t find it. I figured that I would give it a shot. So, I don’t know if this block has been made before, but it was new to me and I made paper piecing templates and everything on my own. Here it is!
This picture doesn’t do the purples and greens justice. They are much more vibrant in real life. Basically, it is flying geese headed toward home coming from all directions. I already have an idea to make a christmas quilt with this design. I thought of other ways to make this block, which were as simple as leaving the center square all one color, either having it be all the home base color, or having it all be background color. I think all three would look great for this quilt.
I originally wanted to call this block “Flying Home.” After searching google for “Flying Home Quilt” and “Flying Home Quilt Block” I decided to choose another name. So, Homeward Bound it is.
Thanks, Candi, for hosting this challenge.
